#249 - Champagne at 8am? I'm in!

We started M’s birthday at Heathrow airport at the Caviar House drinking champagne at 8am and eating delicious smoked salmon. Who says I’m not in touch with the common man?! A short hop to Madrid and an extravagant lunch at Taberna Gaztelupe; amazing Spanish food – artichokes served with clams and salsa verde and beef loin with truffles and goat’s cheese. Oh, and some fino to start and red wine to wash it all down. Afterwards, a walk through an empty and shuttered Madrid, the Easter holidays of Holy Week prompt everyone to flee to the outer provinces to fill the small towns and villages. It felt as though the whole city was ours and ours alone. It will be hard to top it next year.

  1. There's a great way to kick off someone's birthday – bubbly champagne and delicious salmon. The only thing missing was the cake, but I guess there was still the rest of the day for that.
